Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 8 tablespoons 1 stick melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sourdough discard
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the brown sugar and melted butter until smooth.
  • Add the vanilla and egg, whisking until combined.
  • Stir in the sourdough discard until fully incorporated.
  • Add the flour, baking powder, and sea salt. Mix gently until just combined—do not overmix.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a handful to sprinkle on top.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle with the reserved chocolate chips.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Allow the blondies to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out with the parchment and cutting into squares.
